Sure, working productively will
help build your business. But
generating creativity and passion
for what your business does, no
matter how seemingly mundane,
is a hallmark of a high-performance
business. But these don’t
need to be grandiose concepts.
Simply going out of your way to
help a customer in an unusual
fashion qualifies.
Emphasize the collective success of your business
as a whole, not of any individual person, project
or product. Then you can accelerate success by
identifying a few profitable activities and making
them happen even more flawlessly and quickly.
Open the lines of communication. Generally,
those around you need more information, not
less, in order to feel successful. Let people know
where you think the business needs to go, the
problems it faces and what keeps you up at
night. That makes it easier for you to involve
them in finding solutions to your biggest
challenges. Ask their advice about what you are
doing right, what hurts, and what needs fixing.
That way, everyone has a bigger stake in
your success.

How to Use
a Finger Bowl
If lobster or fresh fruit that must be
peeled and eaten with your hands
is served at a restaurant, a finger
bowl may be placed on your table.
Either flowers or a slice of lemon will be floating in the bowl, so a gentleman will
not make the mistake of drinking the water from the finger bowl.
A gentleman dips his fingers in the finger bowl to remove sticky juices or sauces.
He dries his fingertips with his napkin. A server will remove the finger bowl as
soon as it has served its purpose.
Gentlemen, remember that the host(s) at any party is responsible to give guests
the necessary equipment to eat such “messy” food such as artichokes, snails,
and lobster. (By the way, escargot are snails.) Also, hold the utensils tightly whe
separating the food from its shell.
Sorbet is not dessert. A formal setting may provide a small scoop of sorbet after
the main course. The purpose of sorbet is to cleanse the palate.
A Final Word to the Wise!
A gentleman never makes himself the center of attention. Because he is a gentleman,
he does not see this as a burden. Instead, it is a challenge he faces
eagerly every day.

Toward a Better Understanding of
“CANCER”
Most adults feel that cancer
strikes without warning and
is a disease over which
they have no control.
Scientists now know more
about diagnosing and
preventing cancers than
ever before. Doctors are
better at finding cancer
early, before it has spread and when it is most treatable. Research
has taught us what women can do to reduce their individual risk.
Essential to preventing cancer is understanding what cancer is.
Many women confuse ‘cancer’ and ‘tumor’. Although a tumor (mass)
may be cancer, it isn’t always. Sometimes a tumor is ‘benign’
(not cancerous).
When your doctor uses the term “cancer”, he or she means a group
of malignant cells. Malignant refers to cells that are out of control.
Healthy cells respond to hormones; they age and ventually die.
Unlike healthy cells, malignant cells don’t follow the instructions of
the body. They grow and divide unchecked.
Malignant cells can also ‘metastasize’. To metastasize means to travel.
In other words, cancer cells can travel through your body and land
somewhere new. They can then begin to grow and divide in this new
area. Many patients don’t understand metastasis. When they have
growths in their lungs and their breast, for example, many patients
think they have two different cancers. In most cases, what is really
happening is that one cancer is traveling to, and growing in, another
part of the body.
In the days of our parents and grandparents, cancers were frequently
fatal. With today’s medicines, this is often not the case. When a
cancer is found early enough, modern medicine has the best chance
to cure it. Early diagnosis is an important part of surviving a cancer.
There are many ways to diagnose cancers early, some of which are
familiar, like a mammogram
or a pap smear. Other early
diagnosis tests may be less
familiar, like a colonoscopy or
a skin exam. Only by working
with your doctor can you figure
out what early diagnosis
tests may be right for you.
Remember, the earlier you
diagnose a cancer, the easier
it is to cure. So please, don’t avoid those early diagnosis tests!

When you have a balance due the IRS, you should pay the amount in full.
However, what if the balance due is more than you expected and you cannot pay
it in full? What do you do? One option is to apply for an installment greement.
You can apply for an installment agreement if your total due is $25,000.00 or
less including tax, interest and penalties. You can file on line, fill out form 9465
and mail to the address on the bill you received, or you may call the phone
number on the bill. If the installment agreement is for a current year and you
have not received a bill, you can apply for an installment agreement online also.
If your balance due is more than $25,000.00 you may need to file Form 433F,
Collection Information Statement.
The application does require a user fee to set up anagreement. As of January 7,
2007 the user fee is $105.00; however, if your payments are directed from a bank
account, the fee is reduced to $52.00. If your income falls within the guidelines
set up by the Department of Health and Human Services, the user fee is further
reduced to $43.00.
The IRS may agree to restructure your agreement if your financial situation
changes. The fee for restructuring or reinstating your previous agreement is $45.00.
Per the installment agreement, if you should receive a refund in subsequent
years, the refund the IRS will apply it to the balance due.
If you do not feel comfortable with an installment agreement, your other option is
to obtain a loan. In this way, you have paid liability, and you will avoid additional
interest and penalties attributed to the unpaid balance. The IRS also accepts credit
card payments. Using these two options will save you money in the end.
